I often fall between a medium and a large, mostly because I am tall and need the length, and I am glad I ordered a medium. In my ratings, I said that the jacket feels too large and the sleeves too long -- but actually that's why the medium works so well for me.

I used this jacket for the last kilometers up Kilimanjaro with good result. I did not feel cold in it (nor too warm) - and I dod not have issues with rain or snow going up in october, though all others in the group felt cold at some point.
The hood - big enough for a helmet but can be adjusted to work without it
Waterproof - I had no issues
Insulation - great insulation where the jacket was insulated. I was surprised to find that it was not insulated everywhere - but the insulation was where I needed it. It means it packs better and is easier to move around in than if it had been completely insulated - but I needed to rely on my base and midlayers where there was no insulation.

I bought this originally for a upcoming trip to Iceland.
With this jacket I read a few reviews about it being a little cold because the down fill is in only a few select spots, but I normally overheat easily so I figure this would be perfect for me.
I was wrong there really is barely any fill and this jacket is cold. It's more of a rain jacket that has down on your back and elbows. Wouldn't count on this without layering up underneath. (wore this in about high 30s-low 40s in Philadelphia)
It does the job of being waterproof and is light and mobile. So that's positive but for me I already had a rain jacket so there was no point to keeping it.
Great returns by Sierra Trading Post though as always!

I purchased this for my husband as a ski coat for the often cold New England skiing we do. "Stratgeically placed down insulation" is a bit of an overstatement though, it should read "minimally placed down insulation" since it is a strip around the zipper, on the back and on the tops of the upper arms but nothing around the sides or under the arms. This coat is very waterproof but not as warm as either of us had hoped.
