These socks are GREAT! They are comfortable, warm but not hot, and fit great. I guess there's a blemish somewhere, but I haven't found one. Great socks at a GREAT value!

    • Answer Get the Small. They even fit my size 8 feet.
Answered on 1/2/2015 4:10:03 PM by Jojo from Oregon
    • Answer These are very snug fitting socks as the cables tend to act like a ribbing all the way down the length of the sock, so I would go up in size if you are in between sizes

    • Answer It might depend on the shape of your foot in terms of which size would be comfy. I wear a size 10 shoe--my feet are actually a bit short for a size 10--but they are w...i...d...e, so if I can't get a shoe in a wide width, it has to be longer to be comfortable! Somehow this is what works for me

I wear the medium size Smartwool socks, though according to the sizing advice, I should probably be buying the large ones. The mediums fit me fine--I think because my feet aren't so long.

Since the socks are knit, and they are wool, the sizing is "forgiving"--i.e. they stretch.

I hope this helps--you might find the small size will be good for you--especially if your feet are not long for their shoe size!

    • Answer I have purchased several pairs of these socks, both in small and medium, and I am also a 6-6.5 shoe size. I think the medium size is more comfortable and would recommend that. If you do purchase the small, I would be sure not to put them in the dryer. They are very nice socks, even if they are seconds.

    • Answer Like you, I have the 6.5 / 7 shoe size dilemma. I've used size S with these socks and mostly been happy and comfortable with them. Once in a while a pair will feel a little too snug. I have found size M to be a bit too large and don't buy them. Even less frequently, an S pair seems a tad too large.

I think the care instructions indicate that you can machine-wash and machine-dry. — I don't entirely agree: I am careful to put all dirty socks in one or two mesh lingerie bags and machine-wash them in that. This is great for not losing socks. Out of bag, I air-dry them on a rack.
For you (and for me, if I had thought of it sooner) It might work to get size M and machine-wash and, out of the bag, machine-dry them one-three times ... and then after that air-dry them. Just a thought.

    • Answer I don't know about the cut, but they are a stretchy, loose knit, so I would probably go with the smaller size.

    • Answer I've washed them twice in warm wash, cold rinse with no shrinkage.

    • Answer Nope. I launder mine in warm or cold water, and put in the dryer regular cycle, which their website says is fine. They add that to avoid pilling (too late for some of my smartwool socks), you should turn inside out before drying.

    • Answer These are made from superwash wool which can be laundered in warm water and machine dried. No shrinking and the convenience of machine laundering.

    • Answer It might, depending on the amount of agitation, your detergent, whether there are heavy things like denim in the load, and how warm "warm" is in your system. My entire family wears Smartwool socks,; when my thinner ones get mixed in a load done by one the guys, once in a while I get some shrinkage. So far I've been able to re-block the affected sock by tugging it gently back to size. Still, I'd suggest a wash in cold.

    • Answer No, but cooking them in the dryer might. They are pretty impervious.
