These socks were ordered in medium weight. They appear to be very lightweight even though the tag says medium weight. Perhaps Smart Wool should change the designation. The socks were returned because they did not provide enough 'cushioning'.

This is my second pair of Smart Wool "seconds" socks. These socks provide tremendous warmth in winter without bulk. I live in northern New York State where winter temps regularly dip to zero and below. When I have to go out in such cold weather, my Smart Wool socks keep my feet warm and dry in both my leather and synthetic boots. As to being seconds, I can find no obvious flaws, so, for me, both pairs are extra good deals for high quality wool socks. Though this is my first season wearing these socks, I wore my first pair constantly and, so far, they are holding up very well, a fact that prompted me to purchase the second pair. I wash these in with my laundry, dry to "damp dry" and then hang to finish. So far, no shrinkage has occurred. I am very happy with Sierra Trading's selection of products. Great company to do business with!

I haven't worn these particular socks since they were delivered, but smart wool is the best. I have been wearing smart wool socks for several years now, and it is the best material I've ever had on my feet - warm, comfortable, keeps it's shape. They are great to work in, hike in, chill out in... That's why I bought more.

Maybe I was unlucky and maybe these socks (labeled as hiking mid-weight crew) did have serious defects as they were sold as "2nds", I was disappointed overall. I ordered 2 pairs which was surprisingly quickly arrived. Upon examination I felt they were a littler thin as compared with the regulars bought from local store, and little too bulky as well. Nonetheless I put one pair on for a 5-hour hiking about 13 miles, on dirt but mostly flat trails, in my trusted and tested hiking boots. I did not get enough cushion support I expected from Smartwool and, at the end of the hike, my feet already felt hot and friction- even found a small blister! After this one-time use the socks were already appeared worn and deformed, with pulled fabrics. Overall they did not even perform on the par with merino wool socks I bought from Costco for $3 a pair. I loved the price on this site but was thoroughly disappointed by their performance. I already returned them - almost $12 for shipping both ways, a costly mistake indeed. I read mostly positive reviews here so maybe I am the unlucky one who caught an inferior batch, or most the reviewers just wear these for daily routines, not serious hike. By the way, the regulars at the local sports store has these socks under model number SW 130. These "2nds" have label "SW09 130" which was covered then by another number SW 380... - which you could not find on SmartWool official site. The packaging is also different.

The socks are indeed soft and itch-free; they fit well. As soon as I tried them out, I bought two more pairs.

I was already a big fan of Smartwool. They are more expensive than some other brands, yet the quality construction creates the value. They wear great, provide the right amount of volume for me, and machine wash well, too. The colors are a little goofy and don't really match the color on the web site very well.

Super comfy, my feet feel tingly good when I put them on. I am sometimes standing for long hours and these socks provide arch support. Since receiving a pair of smartwool socks as a gift, I have been basically throwing out all my other socks asap to replace with smartwool! Lots of different types, I find the hiking and on the job types to be most supportive. I had no idea socks could be so serious. Only smatwool for my feet! Sizes are true to slightly larger..I am a 6.5/7 and I wear size s for 4.5-6.5
