I've used these gloves for years. They are great alone when its not too cold. When the temperatures plummet they work great as a liner glove under shell mittens or other gloves. I especially like them for photography. They are light enough that I can press the buttons and adjust the lens with the gloves on. If it is really cold I quickly plunge into oversized shell mits with a hand warmer inside or into a pocket until the next adjustment is needed. For cross country skiing the same is true. I wear the smart wool liners when climbing & then often add a shell mitten, sometimes with a hand warmer inside for the downhill. I've tried silk gloves & synthetic gloves. For me, these lightweight wool gloves work best.

Have ordered these for all members of my family but me. It was my turn. They are just the ticket alone when it is only chilly and as a liner when it is cold! Always love smartwool.

I adore these and will buy a few more sets for both myself and my husband. They are perfect for sleeping in as well as doing things in very cold weather that require good dexterity. I haven't worn them as liners yet and probably won't until late this year as spring has sprung but I will never backpack or camp without at least one pair of these. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that after the first wear they were already pilling pretty dramatically and they snag easily. Oh well, they don't need to stay pretty to work!

  • Question “How do I determine the glove size? I am ordering the smartwool glove liners. Also, could you recommend a warm mitten. My fingertips get very cold and numb. Thanks”

    • Answer To measure your hand size correctly, measure the widest part of your hand (excluding your thumb), generally around the knuckles. The adult hand size above (in approximate inches) should put you in the general size range. These 2 mittens would be good options. #3831X and #2735H
