I almost always use Large for tops, Medium (34 inseam) for pants. I would have returned the Large sized top, which was the size of a Medium, at the best, for an Extra Large, but they were out of stock. More, STP now bills you for returned items. Luckily, a buddy of mine bought it off me. Buy at least one size larger, especially that wool items tend to shrink, no matter how carefully you wash them. Otherwise, the overall quality is very decent.

Question “The "BLACK" that is displayed is actually gray. I bought some of these recently, and the black displayed at the time was actually shown on the website as black. I'm concerned that i will get gray instead. That happened to me with a Marmot Guide jacket I bought from STP recently.”

This item's 27" is shorter than the similar non-zip neck item # 4972U length of 28" - why ? if I normally take a tall medium, is this item's sleeve and body length longer than standard such that it would be likely to fit me ?”

Answer Shrinks a bit. Im 5-8 175 and the large fits me perfect. You should probably get the xl.
