This top is light weight, warm, soft, breathes well and fits true to size. I would not label the fit as tight or loose but somewhere in the middle. I have several brands of high end base layer tops and bottoms, the SmartWool products are my favorite.

As a new user of wool clothing, I do not cease to be amazed at how good the material is for winter running. It keeps me warm with fewer layers than polyester and even after sweating through the shirt, I don't feel colder.

I'm 5'8", 210 lbs. Overall muscular build but a slight belly and love handles. I bought this shirt and a smartwool tanktop in size large which fit tighter and help wick moisture well. I also bought two smartwool long sleeve shirts in x-large to wear over this piece. The x-large fit loose but not too big, except one is a bit too long in length and sleeves.

Overall very happy and impressed with smartwool products, including this lightweight shirt that's perfect for layering and as a baselayer.

I use these when hiking and hunting. With a poly shirt as a base layer, and a waterproof jacket over it, these long sleeve wool tops are great for whatever the PNW might throw at you. Very comfortable, not itchy and machine washable. I ordered two XL tops and they fit with plenty of room (6' 1", 195#) and the sleeves are plenty long. They've been washed and dried in the dryer with no discernible shrinkage. Top ratings!!!

I usually use M. If you like it snug go a size down

For firefighting we can only use natural materials for under layers, due to synthetics when exposed to intense heat and/or flame will shrink and or burn to the skin. Since wool is the best material that I've found it's only fitting to choose this material. And smart wool is one of the best out there.
