The hood is way more practical that I thought it might be and I use it a lot in chilly weather. THe Smartwool top is not itchy at all, breathes well, and looks great on its own....in fact I have it on right now. With the hood up, I am surely mistaken for an Olympic speed skater I think not)!

This top is figure flattering and soft enough to be the base layer it sets out to be while providing the supreme comfort of merino. I love the thumb holes and half zip. The paneling adds to the overall comfort and ease of movement. I'm 5'8, 130 and the small fits perfectly (though at 1st I thought it tight across my tummy 'pooch', it let up during the course of the day just skims over the belly. Wish it came in more colors!

The hood can come up to provide a little warmth and come off as the day warms up. Sleeves are long enough for me (5'11"), and the top washed well. I got the teal / blue color, and it's quite nice.
