I missed my chance to buy a pair of Merino wool leggings at a decent price while in NZ this year and was kicking myself. I found this pair at Sierra and took a chance. Absolutely no regrets! I wear them under my snowpants, and when I get to work, I can take the snow pants off and wear the leggings under a tunic. They are warm, fit snugly without being grabby, and are actually long enough, which is often a problem for me. I never have that annoying little gap between the top of my socks and the bottom of the base layer.

I love the weight of Smartwool PhD--thicker with a more tightly-knit weave than both my Icebreaker and Ibex merino leggings, and closer-fitting, too. They are soft and smooth but not sheer, so they are great as a single layer for running/exercising or with skirts/dresses, as well as being an excellent, very warm baselayer. They also fit well over padded bike shorts for winter cycling (though I fear they would rip easily in the event of a crash). I found the fit perfect--I'm 5'4", 125 lbs and size S fits really well, including length. I managed to snag a pair of these just as they were selling out, so I hope STP will get more in soon!
