Boxy and very wide in the shoulders! I have wide shoulders and this coat was hugely boxy and squarish in shape, not at all flattering. The neck was not a snug fit either. I really love the materials, the jacket feels great on. However, the fit is terrible, so I am returning it.

Very nice well made and light jacket. This jacket runs smaller than other SmartWool Jackets I have bought in the past. I am 5'5" and 128lb and the medium fits.

I watched this jacket for months and finally bought it. I LOVE smartwool and this jacket is no exception... Walked 3 miles around a lake yesterday with it and a couple layers in 18 degree weather. Great jacket, not cheap but still a good buy I think

I bought this jacket to decrease the layers I wear while running. It works. I use it as a jacket, not a midlayer. The coldest I've worn it is in the teens. It was plenty warm, in fact, I unzipped it part way. There are two inside roomy pockets and the outside pockets zip. The color is nice and bright too. I am 5'4" and 130 pounds. I bought the large to wear layers underneath. I'm glad I did.

    • Answer This item is not too bulky, so it is decently packable, but is not designed as a packable jacket. The outer fabric is nylon, so there is some water resistance.

    • Answer Sure, you can pack it easily in a suitcase. I don't know if it would work in a backpack. Yes, the exterior is water resistan. I've worn it during snowfall but not rain. It's my favorite running jacket.

    • Answer Hi there, while I did not keep this jacket, I loved the materials and believe it will be great traveling to Scotland, but not as the only layer in the wintertime! Be sure to have some wool base layers to go underneath. I think the outer material is water shedding (not proof). I think you could pack it down, but not to a tiny thing, after all, it is wool you are compressing. Yet, it is the real wool insulation that makes it feel really great and dependably warm when on so that dampness won't feel bad at all! If it looked better on me I would be wearing it!

    • Answer Hi Heidi,
No, the jacket is not bulky at all and can easily be squeezed, rolled etc. As an aside, don't know if you have ever used the vacuum packing bags before but they are great for compressing especially for all that wool you should take!
As for water resistant, I just stuck the sleeve under the faucet and it does appear to be pretty water resistant.
      Have a great trip!

    • Answer Can it be squeezed and rolled? Not really. It is not like a down jacket that compresses. So it has to be packed just like you would pack a substantial sweater. Is the exterior at all water resistant? I walked my dog in some light rain for about an hour, and that is the only test I base my judgement on. I did not feel wet, I was comfortable and dry. So I would say it has mist (but not downpour) resistance based on my limited experience.
