When I want greater warmth I choose these over the PhD medium cushion ski socks. They are considerably thicker, both because the soles themselves seem to have more cushioning and, unlike the phd line, they don't have the multiple cutouts on the top of the foot. They are warm enough that even in the winter - and we're in CO - I often wear part fabric/part leather light hikers without my feet getting cold. An added bonus is that they wear extremely well, especially considering that I often wear them around the house without shoes.
