Reviewed by BC SEA from WA on Wednesday, March 6, 2013The normal tight fit of SW merino is not what you get this time. The panels are off putting and the hood is an afterthought. Skip it.
Reviewed by coyotte from Cambridge, MA. on Monday, March 4, 2013This is a nice 1st layer but I was a little disappointed with some details. I would rate it 4.5 stars if it were possible.
The material is light and non itchy but as soon as it gets wet, it smells a little bit. It is common in low grade merino products but was not expecting that from smartwool. The smell is not very pronounced and it manages other odors wonderfully. The hood would be better if it would cover the throat. The arms are a bit short for me to take real advantage of the thumb loops (6'1, loong legs, short torso, 230-240lbs). This is not a cold weather shirt but that's to be expected from the lightweight fabric and is not what I bought for anyway. Nothing trully problematic and I would definitely buy again at Sierra prices but I am glad I didn't pay retail price as those little drawbacks would have annoyed me in a $80 shirt !
