Verified Buyer Reviewed by madcaphorse from NYC on Tuesday, April 28, 2015This helmet is very comfy and the plum color is slightly sparkly ....almost imperceptibly so. I love it. Haven't tried it snowboarding yet because the season is over. But I got a great STP deal and it will surely beat rentals!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Adk Lynn from Saranac Lake, NY on Saturday, December 13, 2014Needed a new helmet, and wanted one with a brim. Liked what I saw of Smith, and when I checked out the price of this, I jumped on it. Have worn it five times, very pleased with the snug fit and comfort. My head is on the small side, I got a small, it's a perfect fit. Other reviewers were upset that it's not matte white. The top is shiny, bottom half matte, looks ok to me!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by The Smiths from Colorado on Tuesday, October 28, 2014I ordered a large, because it was the only size available, but I really liked the helmet and my head is the bottom range of the circumference identified in the description. The color is gorgeous and the smallest setting appears to fit just fine without too much movement. The lining is soft and warm and no irritation by the chin strap. Looking forward to testing it on the mountain this coming ski season.
Reviewed by Snuff Daddy from Kansas City on Tuesday, September 16, 2014I'm a man and I bought this helmet. I could see no difference between this and the men's Variance. And since a lot of helmets are unisex, I sent Smith an email asking what the difference was. They got right back to me, and said the only difference was the colors and that this one has a softer lining. Since the color was black, this was not a problem. The men's does have a black lining, whereas this one is white. However, when it is on, you barely see any of the lining, and so what if it's white?
Smith's top of the line helmet, the Vantage, is $220 and does not go on sale. It is probably the best helmet on the market. The Variance/Valance is the next step down, and STP's price is unbeatable. Smart money is on this helmet.
My head size is 23" and the Medium just fits. Any larger and you should go with the Large.
Reviewed by Ski Mama from Washington on Thursday, August 7, 2014I haven't actually skied in this helmet but I have worn it around the house and out on a couple of bike rides. It is super, super warm (finally my ears won't freeze) and plush. On the bike rides, I played with the airflow adjustment. I think it will be a really cool feature on the hill, especially since the helmet keeps my head so warm. I also really love the snapfit ear pads and the google lock. When paired with my Smith googles the fit is perfect on my face, no gap. I ordered the small, and it is a little snug (even when adjusted). Be sure to use the measurement chart when ordering. Also, the black color appears to be a matte finish, but it is actually shiny. No big deal for me. This is a fantastic helmet at a great price!
