These are made for hiking, and they really feel like they'll take some good miles of use and abuse. They add a new level of comfort to my already comfortable boots, and are every bit as good as those pricier hiking insoles.
If your boots already feel good, these insoles are a great enhancement. I...

This is a nice cushioned insole that isn't real thick, so it will fit in most hiking boots. If you want arch support from your insole, these won't help you much. SOF does have arch support versions of some of their other insoles, but for much higher prices. Sizing on these insoles runs pretty big. The size 7/8 fit well in my size 9 boots, while the size 9/10 required a lot of trimming.

My second set. I chose this Soft Sole option as it was for my intended use hiking and their Athletic insole that I purchased years ago and really liked was redesigned and not as good today based on reviews. The lump in the arch area on this insole was not obvious in product images and at first was a concern but in use it was helpful in supporting and massaging my arches.

I like the thicker "ridge" that runs down the center of this insole. Gives the feeling of arch support and seems to mitigate foot fatigue somewhat better than more conventional insoles. Also, these don't smell after use, unlike the "Superfeet" brand insole. I bought two pair and will no doubt get more in time.
The athletic insole has more cushion for impact, but they are both comfortable.

Hiking and running are forms of the same activity with different cyclic loads. They both are well designed. The choice would be best to chose footwear for the intended use. I hike miles of rocky beach coast in boots then switch to light hikers to trek the trail home before dark. I use each for the intended task.
