Based on other reviews indicating the shoe is 1/2 size too big, I was concerned that my 10.5 would be too big. I'm a 10, but order 1/2 size larger for winter footwear as I occasionally wear 2xpair socks when it's brutally cold in Chicago. But even with 1 pair of socks, the shoe felt like a 10.5 to m... Great company, great shoes but a quick heads up:

The footbed is quite 'squishy' and has a fair amount of bounce to it. Most likely this is to improve insulation and it works very well.

However the stiffness of the collar requires heavy socks to avoid blisters above the heel on the back of the ankle while breaking in (due to the soft nature of the footbed I noticed a fair amount of rubbing). Even thick cotton socks with extra padding on the heel/ankle area might not be enough - I wear Bridgedale heavy wool socks and haven't had any real problems.

Aside from that one point they're fantastic. Comfortable, not too warm, clean enough to wear to the office, and have good traction for commuting.

I'm a 10, but order 1/2 size larger for winter footwear as I occasionally wear 2xpair socks when it's brutally cold in Chicago. But even with 1 pair of socks, the shoe felt like a 10.5 to me, so I'm happy. The insole is thick, cushioned, insulated, and removable. Sorel makes a great winter boot and I expect this product to live up to the name as well.

About Sorel

Canadians know a thing or two about cold weather, so it's not surprising they were behind one of the most popular cold-weather boots ever created. Sorel - founded in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1962 - is perhaps best known for the ubiquitous Caribou, a boot that pioneered the use of a unique material that reflected heat back to the foot. This reflective material was incorporated into Sorel's advanced four-layer construction process that includes a weather-resistant shell, wicking liners and ThermoPlus® felt inner liners to keep feet dry and toasty. Now nearly a century old, Sorel continues to meet the rigorous demands of today's active lifestyles - from snowmobiling to snowshoeing, sledding to skiing - with its highly respected line of footwear and apparel.
