“well made, not very practical”

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
“I'm ~6'2" with a moderately thin build (size 42 long in a suit jacket). I wear a large in most ski jackets, including Spyder. The shell of this jacket (the inner portion that's worn under the vest) fits like a large with enough room to comfortably wear a few layers of insulation underneath. If you're an extra large, the shell might be too small for that, limiting your ability to wear the shell by itself because it's not insulated. The vest appears to be made to the same standards as Spyder's jackets in the top-of-line Legend series. The vest has the same basic design as Spyder's '08/'09 Legend jackets (but with no sleeves, obviously). The vest fits more like an XL and hangs fairly loosely around shell. The vest is well insulated, but the shell does not zip or snap into it, so I think you're bound to loose a little heat from pumping. The bottom of the vest does have draw cords, however, so you can cinch up the hem around the shell to prevent heat loss. Also, the arm holes of the vest have some elastic material that fits pretty snuggly around the sleeves of the shell. Overall, this is a really nice piece of gear with top-notch Spyder engineering and construction. Despite that, I don't know when I'd wear this jacket except for spring skiing on fairly warm days. I wouldn't wear it in cold weather (under 40 degrees farenheit)because the sleeves aren't insulated. If you decided to wear heavy insulation under the shell to account for that, you'd have a pretty bulky set up due to the bulk of insulation in the vest. I tend to be a little cold blooded and generally don't keep warm enough on cold days when I'm wearing a shell with layers underneath, even when the layering is pretty heavy, so I'd need to wear the vest, too. Interesting concept for a jacket, but I sent mine back. If you tend to stay warm with minimal insulation, even on cold days, this could be a good option for you.”
