Reviewed by Sylphs from NY on Monday, February 10, 2014Very pretty jacket, but sized very small. I am a consistent 8 and the small was way too small. I also didn't like the fleece lining because it would be hard to layer with another fleece since the two would stick together and restrict movement. There was no underarm zipper. I sent it back
Reviewed by Benephanie from Pittsburgh, PA on Friday, February 7, 2014Pros: Warm in varying degree weather. I've used it in weather as warm as 40 degrees and as cool as 13 degrees. It does a fantastic job blocking wind. The zippers all work smoothly. The inner liner zips up to the chin and has a flap of fabric over the zipper so it doesn't scratch the skin. The outer shell zips up high enough to cover the bottom of the face, however I've been wearing a neck warmer- so I can't completely attest to the functionality of the jacket fully zipped. There is an outside and an inside left chest pocket that is perfect for holding ski necessities such as chapstick, ID, money etc. There is an inside mesh pocket for a cell phone. The hood fits nicely over a helmet. The length is nice, coming just to the bottom of the rear. It has a very feminine fit, tapered at the waist. It is very easy to detach the knit sweater liner-- just un-snap 3 snaps (one at each cuff and one at the back of the neck). I've found I take the shell off while in the lodge and just wear the knit sweater liner.
Cons: The inner sweater liner does cause some restriction in movement. It feels exactly as if you are wearing a snugly fit sweater under your jacket. The sweater liner is lined with fleece- so a base layer such as an Under Armour cold gear shirt will not move freely under it. You'd have to wear a base layer with more of a slick spandex surface. And finally, there is no place to hang your ski pass. All the zippers have a rubber coating which completely covers the pull. There is no outer D-ring to hang a pass either. So, I'm stuck wearing a lanyard which tends to blow in my face while skiing.
About the fit: I am 5' 4", 135 lbs, with a 36D chest. I ordered the jacket in a 12 knowing Spyder tends to run small on me. It is a great fit.
Reviewed by Runner from Colorado on Monday, January 27, 2014the coat is great; looks really nice, as does the sweater/fleece. Really attractive color (royal blue/black). Might run a little small. The size 8 fits my 5'3", 120 lb girl well.
Reviewed by rpcnurse from Chicago, IL on Monday, January 20, 2014I really wanted to like this jacket because it's from Spyder, but the colors didn't look good on me so I returned it. The inner sweater/core was tight and the outer shell ran true to size. As stated before - this is more like a sweater that is attached at the neck and sleeves to the shell - would probably work on ski days, but not for everyday wear.
Reviewed by Megan from Houston TX on Monday, September 23, 2013I bought this jacket because my husband has the men's version and loves it. I love his too. Unfortunately, when I received mine, it just didn't fit right. My arms felt trapped and I felt like my movement was inhibited a bit. I also felt a bit constricted in this one- like the arms were too tight or the sweater liner (which my husband adores) was too heavy. I think I was in the correct size, as anything large would have been boxy. I've exchanged this for a marmot 3-in-1 with a down liner (from Sierra as well) and I love it. For me, it's the better fit.
