The coat is lighter than you would think from the picture. It's very light weight, but I gave it an hour long test walk in a snowstorm and it was plenty warm and breathed well. Fit is comfortably loose, good sleeve length, quality buttons, zippers, and sewing. Terrific coat.

Lighter weight than the picture would suggest. Well thought out coat with quality details such as the buttons, zippers, and hood. It's the warmest light coat I've ever had. Test walked it in below freezing weather for over an hour and staid comfortably warm. Roomy with a good length to the sleeves.

I expected this garment of "loden cloth" to consist of a fabric with some longer pile, a thick, woolen, water-repellent nap. Instead this coat was made from a heathered flat, thin wool blend fabric much like a lightweight wool gabardine or flannel trouser would be made from. Definitely not the Loden cloth I grew up with in Germany, Austria, and the Alps. And I thought the brown color was nasty, to be polite. The coat was insulated, lightweight, although somewhat bulky - but it just didn't scream "Keep me, I'm what you want" as I kept passing it hanging in my hall way; I was trying to come to admire it and just couldn't. So I've returned it for refund. (Now the traditional Steinbock Alpine vest of boiled wool was truly excellent in cloth and workmanship, by contrast -- I'm keeping it!)

I lived in the Alps most of my life and have always wanted a loden coat, which is traditional in that area. This coat is very warm, waterproof, very light and comfortable. It's roomy - so can easily be worn with a suit or with jeans. It's perfect for traveling. I'm very happy with this product.

I’ve always tried to buy quality clothing, but this is the first really “good," i.e. expensive, coat I’ve ever owned and it’s absolutely worth the price.
The fit is a little loose, which is great for layering with a sweater. It’s flexible and comfortable, and the cut is classic for business but the European styling makes it great for upscale casual wear. The fabric and assembly is impeccable.
I wore it this week in a 10° wind chill and it kept me nicely warm over a just a light shirt.
I’d seen Steinbock clothing in upscale clothing stores when we traveled in Austria but couldn’t get past the prices, so when I saw this coat discounted in Sierra I had to get it.
Great product!

When a ski jacket is too informal and an overcoat too formal, this Austrian Loden Walking Coat fills the bill. I would use this garment in commuting and traveling. The material is rather light weight, so this item is not meant for harsh weather. Although the zipper neck closure extends the useful range of this coat by effectively shutting out wind and snow. The attached hood is useful for extreme conditions, although the nylon roll-up hood seems more appropriate on a ski jacket than on this stylish town coat.
The fit is rather generous. It is best used over a sweater or suit jacket.

I love this coat; it's very warm when zipped/buttoned up, but surprisingly lightweight.
The down side: while the buttons are on the right, the zipper is on the left, which seems to be a European thing. I'm hoping I get used to that soon, because it's driving me nuts right now -- but I've only had the coat for a few days. You guys might want to put on a big jacket of your wife's or girlfriend's and see how odd it feels to zip on the wrong side.
It's also a little on the big side -- I think JUST a little, not quite enough to return it, as I think the next size down would be too snug. The pockets are also a little oddly positioned -- there's completely vertical ones with flaps you can put gloves in, as well as slanted ones that go behind them, if that makes any sense, that you can put your hands in -- but the entrance to them is a LITTLE lower than ideal. This might again be because it's a little too large.
Still, I love it.
