Had a small pair of Nikons since college that I always kept in my truck. You never know when you might need binoculars, and they were there when I go to a local ballgame. Well, someone made off with them, and I could not find a good replacement. Till now. Just lucked into these, and it was a really ... Read More

Amazing clarity, great price for a usually expensive brand. Be careful with the coating, it is easily damaged. I bird watch, hike, etc. and take these everywhere now.

I think these binoculars will be great for our Alaskan cruise! I have been looking at the wildlife in our backyard and the clarity is wonderful. I suspect these waterproof and fog proof binoculars will be perfect for the weather in our lovely 49th State!!!!!

I was expecting the clarity of these binoculars to be at least as good as some old Bushnells I have. Nope. The clarity of the optics was really disappointing: very fuzzy despite focusing. I know you should never scrimp on glass, but I had hoped these would be a good value. I was mistaken.

Durable, lightweight, fantastic optics. These binoculars pick up nuances in low light and are my go to glasses when hunting. Yes, there are some that do perform a little better due to larger lenses, but not in this price range. Only luepold or ziess, but they are more than twice the price! German craftsmanship, clear optics in a lightweight, tough package, allows me to take these everywhere I go without fear of damaging them.

I own a 1999 model year of the Steiner 8X30 Predator porro-prism binoculars and use them for hunting and general use around the homestead. They're light, waterproof, and rubber armored. Just what I needed for hunting. Great pair of binoculars but not compact by any means. Since then I've owned and used several other sets of binoculars, not Steiner’s though. Two pair of compact roof-prism Bushnell H2O 8X25's for my young daughters and another pair of cheaper roof-prism waterproof 12X40's I keep in my truck console. But after getting the roof-prism's for my daughters recently I wanted a pair of compacts for myself, something small and light that I could use for camping, hiking, throwing in a bug-out bag, take to sporting events and general use where the older Predators are a little big to carry around. I spent quite a few hours reviewing many brands of compact binoculars and pricing them, finally choosing these for several reasons. First is the Steiner quality, second was the price, and also that they're not only waterproof but rubber armored. When they were delivered I got all the other binoculars out and compared them. These Steiner compacts are as good as my Steiner 8X30's, have a little higher magnification, and the image quality just as excellent. This comparison proved how good quality glass is worth the extra cost. The other binoculars weren't bad, just not nearly as good. It's true that you get what you pay for when it comes to binoculars. These compacts came with a small nylon carrying case that I'm not thrilled about, the binoculars do fit but there's no room for much else, like the cleaning cloth that came with it or the included ocular rain cover and trying to stuff the thin neck strap in packs it tight. I've already ordered a small padded camera case that has an external pocket for accessories, like the cleaning cloth and the admittedly nice rain cover. Something I do like about the rain cover is how it has snaps to go around the neck strap so you don't have to remove the neck strap from the binoculars to take it on and off. The camera case I ordered should hold the rain cover and cleaning cloth with room to spare, and the main pocket is big enough to stuff the strap in too. Right now the neck strap is outside the included nylon case so I can carry the case with the binoculars inside using the neck strap. One more thing, the neck strap is quite thin, I'll probably upgrade that to a larger padded strap and the case I ordered should accommodate that. The strap is okay since the binoculars are light but a better strap will replace it soon. All in all, an excellent pair of compact binoculars for the price. Sure, you can pay more for Leica, Swarovski, etc. and get a better quality glass but for my older eyes it's not worth it. These fit my needs perfectly without breaking the bank. They're so much better than the others I have I'm afraid my daughters will find out and want some for themselves!
