I found the waist a bit snug, so perhaps they would fit somebody with a slightly more hourglass figure than mine or someone who is not short-waisted (I'm relatively petite). Were these more low rise, they would have fit really well.

I never wear a size greater than petite 4: they actually grazed over my thighs and hips fine, but the button and hole for the waist were miles apart. They were not going to be too tight, the sides were not even going to touch, and I am not heavy. I think these are defective, not really even worth sending back. It's a nice fabric, and maybe I'll think of something crafty to do with it!

I compared the 8P to my 6P by a different manufacturer and these pants are way smaller. Order at least TWO or more sizes LARGER! However Sierra was helpful and I returned them.

I took the advice of others and ordered a much larger size than normal - I'm an 8 and ordered a size 14 petite. The pants fit well in the thighs and waist, but the rise was so long that fabric kind of bunched at the crotch area when I walked. Not particularly comfy and rather awkward to walk in. The legs are narrow and long and would look best worn with high heels in order for the fabric not to bunch at the ankles. I'm sure these would work for someone with a longer waist, just be sure to order several sizes larger than usual.
