This hat collapses flat for storage or transport; that is convenient. It keeps sun/rain off and the chinstrap keeps it from blowing off in the wind...works well. The bonus benefit I discovered is that it is very compatible with using a camera that you hold up to your eye, like a DSLR. With many of my hats, the brim gets in the way when I'm using my camera; so I usually push the hat back on my head or turn it around backwards to get the brim out of the way. With the hat I found that when I hole my camera up to my eye the brim is very flexible and just pushes up without changing the position of the hat on my head.
I particularly enjoyed this hat last summer when hiking in Arches National Park in Utah.

Much as I love the Sunday Afternoons hats, especially the types with a neck flap, this one is a little off the beam. There's an elastic band all around it to adjust for size, instead of the usual buckled strap. This band is hot! No no no, on the hottest days you don't want a fat elastic band gripping your head, even with ventilation mesh (+)The elastic doesn't make the best sweat band either. It has a keeper anyway to keep it from flying off, also a neat little pocket. Brim is very wide and like all of them, darker underneath to dampen reflected light.
