Good starter kit. Vices should snap onto bindings for a more secure hold.

The iron and vises are the reason to buy this kit if you can get it cheap ($80-100 range). The kit does not come with a middle clamp to support the ski in a flat position so keep that in mind when comparing options for purchase. The wax, guide, file, plexi scraper and brush are better than nothing but you will want to piece those together from another source. If the price is right the vise and iron are tough to beat.

This was a gift and perhaps the buyer didn't realize how limited this package was. The instructions with the kit included many parts that were not included in this tune kit. The file is very basic and there was only one block of wax included. You'll need to suppliment this kit with other equipment to have a complete tune set-up.

This was best package at great price that included both a pair of vises and an iron. The edge tuner is just OK but definitely gets the job done. Could see picking up a better edge tuner and possibly another brush to supplement. The vises are easy to use and seem well made. The iron is basic but works great. Has a decent size block of wax, should be enough to wax 6-8 times.

If you're looking to start tuning your own gear, I'd suggest peace-mealing from local shops instead of buying this kit. While the ski vices work great (don't know what these other dudes are talking about...I ride a pair of Gotama's which are 108 under foot and they work great), a lot of the other equipment in this kit needs to be upgraded if you plan on improving your tuning abilities. File and holder are useless, and the brush is pretty small for larger and wider skis. In hindsight I should have just went to my local shop and bought from them. Not to mention they can give you some great insight into the tricks of the trade
    • Cons: Small brush, Useless file and holder
    • Describe Yourself: Expert
    • Pros: Decent ski vice, Nice bar of wax, Nice iron

  • Question “How wide does the vise get? Will it fit the newer wide based ski?”
Asked on 10/23/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown
    • Answer The vise is six inch wide and it can fit some wide ski that do not go over that size.

    • Answer Skies actual rest on top of the vice. The claps in the picture are for fastening the vice to a surface . Here is a better picture of the set up. Enjoy. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/swix-ultimate-alpine-ski-tuning-kit-with-table~p~3807v/?merch=prod-rec-1869T

    • Answer The vices are not designed to accommodate the width of any ski. The ski rests on top of the vises when working base up. There are rubber pads that do a 95% kinda job at holding the skis in place. When the sidewalls are facing up, the vices hold the ski in place with a normal vice setup.
