Targus Gary Borger Pro Series Fly Fishing Rod - 4-Piece, 9' 8wt

Practiced with a 12 weight for many months. I liked how it casted. Took it on Tarpon trip and first hook up it broke jsut below the 2nd ferrule from the handle. It's true that the company webiste is no more but you can contact the fly shop and they will work with you on a replacement. they said that the early rods had problems breaking and that they believe they ahve corrected and will test each repaired rod before sending it back to you. I'll test out the repaired one when I get it.

This rod has the best action I have ever experienced, the 8 wt is just a really nicely balanced rod.

Was setting the drag for steelhead in the parking lot, and the rod exploded - second section from the tip broke in two places. I was going pretty easy on it, so maybe it's a good thing the first hookup of the season didn't happen on this rod...

This rod is garbage -- tip broke on first trip and nobody is home at their company website.

I'd like to say more,however the reels I purchased to use with this rod wouldn't fit in the reel seat. Sending back !!

This rod broke on the first fish I caught with it. I will only purchase Loomis or Sage Blanks and make my own from now on. This was a terrible product and will probably give it away as I have no use for it.

I bought this rod and took it to Alaska. While fighting a red on the first day there the rod exploded. The 2nd secton broke and I was forced to purchsae a new rod to get me through the trip. I will say the rod has a lifetime guarantee and I sent it back for a replacement. [...]

I have owned mine for two seasons now. It has handled about 200+ coho & sockeye salmon as well as rainbows to 15+ pounds on various rivers in Alaska and still going. It has held up very well on rafting trips.

As another reviewer mentioned, bad reel seat fit. It did not fit any of my modern style reels. The only reel I could find that would fit it, was a piece of junk graphite reel with a very thin and tapered reel foot. Contacted Targus. Owner told me how wrong I was, denied knowledge of any reel seat issues, but told me to send it in to him to check it out. I opted to cut my losses and painlessly returned it.
