Took this rod to New Orleans for some Redfish sport fishing. I was impressed with the lightness and flexibility. It performed more like a 5 wt. rod than the usuall stiffer 9 wts. My buddies and the guides tried it and all agreed it was an awesome rod. I recieved many compliments on it's nice appaerance in addition to it's performance. Oh yeah I caught some nice 25 pounders with it.

I received the rod and put it to use on a flats fishing trip in Tampa bay. It performed great even in strong winds.

    Pros:
Accurate Casting, Easy casting, Extra tip
    Cons:
    Uneven aesthetics

I bought the 9 wt first, and loved it so much I bought an 8 too. I have never cast another rod at any price point that allowed me to make such long, accurate casts so easily, and the extra tip could save the day if the rod snaps in some remote spot. Would be equally at home with salmon in Canada, bonefish in the Bahamas, stripers in the surf, or largemouths in you local pond. Aesthetics are debatable (non-traditional reel seat and paint job, second-quality cork), but the performance and price are unmatched -- especially if you use a discount coupon!

Fantastic casting feel, easy distance, beautiful looks, wonderfully light weight - BUT - the reel seat is a joke - had to file it to get a reel in, guides are very small for saltwater use, lack of a hook keeper is a real pain. This appears to be a show piece, not a use piece, too bad as the blank is great. Well worth the Sierra discount, discount price.
