“Sizing guide is off”

“Because there are conflicting reviews regarding the fit of this shoe, it might be helpful for me to add my experience: it is too big, especially at the heel. However, in ordering it I followed the size guide given, even though it worried me. I wear a US 7 1/2, which the guide says is equal to a European 39. Almost always I wear a 38, but thinking this guide was specific to the shoe, I ordered up. That appears to have been a mistake. Still, though, because the heel was so wide, I was afraid to exchange for the smaller size, even though the shoe is gorgeous and I believe it would be heavenly comfortable (IF it fit).
