Very pleased, but was unable to get my orthotic in it without mu toes getting pushed to the front. With out the orthotic the shoes insole felt like my orthotic.

I bought these "trail shoes" specifically for an upcoming trip to Kauai in a few months, so I will re-evaluate once I've given them a really fair trial...on the trail!! I'm 54 & have pretty bad bunions on both feet and have real issues with closed shoes, especially if they have much of a structure and no give. Although after reading alot of blogs and watching alot of videos about hiking in Kauai I got nervous about wearing my regular tennis shoes because it's SO wet and muddy, so I looked around alot both online, and in person and found these. I was a little hesitant about a couple of reviews that talked about the stiffness and rubbing on the ankle, which I felt would be issues that would bother me very much (although probably 98% of the reviews were very favorable). They are a little stiff, although not too bad. But the ankle issue is not there. They do not rub my ankles at all. The toe box is roomy enough for my bunion issue, and they are super comfortable in the soles and footbed. The only very slight issue that doesn't bother me at all, but might bother someone is the heel is maybe a little too roomy and it does slip. I have been working on breaking them in for my trip and I walk 2.5 mi a day and with good socks the heel slipping hasn't been an issue. I'm really happy I got them, and can't wait to try them out on the various trails I intend to hike, as well as the camping and hiking I will normally do here in AZ. The one thing I'm looking forward to overcome is the funky smell they have. It's kind of a weird chemically/rubbery?? smell. They are waterproofed, so maybe it's that. But whatever it is, it definitely permiates everything in my gym bag. So they are now stored outside until I can figure out a way to disapate the smell. So far I love the shoes and anticipate that they will be perfect on the wet & muddy trails in Hawaii because they appear to have good traction/treads. It's too hot here now to do my walking outdoors so I can't really attest to that yet, so I'm having to do it all in the gym. The other thing that really sold me on purchasing these through Sierra Trading was their guarantee and return policy. It's very good, and very reasonable so I wasn't concerned about not liking the shoes. I could return them if I didn't like them. Although I think they are going to be just wonderful camping/hiking shoes.

Was looking for a good pair of Tevas (huge Teva fan) for an all day outdoor excursion, read the reviews and these work great! They are comfy and feel supportive. The overall look and feel of the shoe has me super excited! Ready for anything out there in these :-)
