These boots barely need to be broken in, and are quite comfy and stable (great ankle support) when hiking. I've only taken one trip in them, but stayed in them the whole time through biking, snow hiking, and camping, and they were great. Since they're not all leather, I have no idea how long they'll hold up, but they were awesome on this trip. The waterproofing should be taken with a grain of salt, though - after snow hiking they were definitely damp on the inside.
