I use these boots to walk to and from the office, less than 2 miles each way. They're comfortable right out of the box and appear very durable despite the light weight.
They seem to be fairly water resistant although I have not had a chance to use them during moderate/heavy rains. The Vibram sole provides very good traction on rocky/uneven surfaces.

Comfortable boot with some support. Vibram sole is great. Gortex inner lining is very poorly installed. It bunches up around your foot like there's an extra sock inside. Never wore them outside. I walked around the house enough to know that the inner liner would cause issues hiking 5-10 mile a day.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Nice boot, good support, good looks. Unfortunately, I have a high arch and slightly wide feet, and the North Face Adversary constricted my feet a bit too much, so I returned them. Otherwise, definitely a keeper.
