It displayed the temp and time on the ceiling and outdoor temp and humidity. This one does neither and seems cheaply made. I only need a new outdoor transmitter for the older model, so I might return this one and order the transmitter directly from lacrosse. I think the new model is portrayed as better than it is.

Answer It does not have to be in direct sunlight to function, it is recommended to be in direct sunlight for an hour or so a day you will get maximum sensor life.
