Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
My only use so far is as a casual sock for work. I look for smooth toe seams, good aeration, and nice all-around cushioning, especially in the achilles tendon area where shoes often chafe me. I usually rely on SmartWool, often finding Thorlo to have poorer aeration (lacking the wool content), but this is a perfect substitute for my purposes.
Also, many socks come in sizes 7-9.5 or 10-14. I am a size 9.5 and constantly have to pick between too loose or too tight. This has range more like 8.5-10. Perfect for me.
One misleading thing is that I would not call these UltraLight. I am happy with the level of cushioning for myself, but these are more "Light" than "UltraLight". I think of UltraLight as pretty thin. These are not super thin.

I wore this sock the first time for a 1 hour hike and when I got back, my feet felt wet (I didn't use a liner) and I was developing a blister. Part of that may be the new boots, though. Then I used a Coolmax liner with them for another hour and all was fine except a lot of fabric pilling around the heel. Overall, not too happy about that.
