    I wear an average women's size 8 shoe & my husband wears a size 11 1/2 shoe. I got these in the women's & his in the men's. These would be fine for hiking, but I got them for sleeping in. The band at the top is snug when ordering your usual size. His pair actually fit better on me for sleeping in & they would not be too big for wearing in my shoes. So, I'll be wearing his socks.

    I used this sock right out of the package, on an 18 mile adventure race. It kept my feet cool and dry the first 4 miles of the 5 mile trail run. I then ran through a creek and well, feet stayed cool but not dry. I wore the sock on the 12 mile mountain bike ride, and the 1 mile Kayak paddle. No blisters or rub spots even when it was soaked. I really liked the socks.
