Reviewed by tobor the 8th man from Smoky Mountains on Monday, April 15, 2013Based on Timbuk2's online videos about the Race Duffel, I thought the "small" model would be about the size of a normal gym bag. It is smaller. The small size might be fine for someone with very small shoes and minimal gear, but it isn't practical for a grown man or an athlete with gear. I returned the small and replaced with the medium size, which is actually larger than a normal size gym bag--but still far more practical for daily use than this product. It is difficult to recommend the Race Duffel in the small size because the size isn't practical, and because the medium size is priced reasonably. Both seem well made, although I don't see anything really that special in the materials/workmanship. Don't get me wrong--decent quality, but you're definitely a premium for the name. The one area where this bag shines is the lay-out. It is laid out very well for athletes so it's easy to find gear and isolate the dirty stuff. If you're considering buying this bag, I just recommend you consider going up a size.

Reviewed by Looking for a solid tech tee from Virginia on Saturday, March 02, 2013This duffel bag replaced my Timbuk2 tote that is used for the gym; needed a bigger size. Overall, it is effective with several compartments for wet or dirty items. My only complaint, is that the shoulder straps are awkward and difficult to get into once the bag is packed and they easily become unhooked from the bag.

Answer Most airlines allowable carry on dimensions are 22”x14”x9” for a total of 45” linear (all together) and weighs 40 lbs. This bag exceeds these dimensions. However you may want to check with your air carrier since these do vary some from carrier to carrier.
