It does work, but more like at a 6-8 ft distance, not 10. The compact size fits well in a purse. Its a decent price for what it is.

Answer Pepper spray usually has a shelf life of 2-3 years. While is does not technically "go bad", it does lose its potency with time. Most have an expiration date somewhere on the packaging.
