when I tested the spray, as directed on container - it sort of -not exactly dribbled- but sure didnt go powerfully 8 feet as indicated it would - not sure this one would be very effective in an emergency.

I carry a small pepper spray every time I backpack just in case a bear encounter in unpreventable. I replace them annually and keep them in a small wet/dry pouch with a few other "just in case" items. I have discharged one of these in a demo to my wife. My mother-in-law decided to make a surprise entrance during the demo through our back gate and was unfortunately downwind. It works well but more like 8 feet not 10 feet.

Looks like it would really work to keep food away from bears; at least the Black Bears that inhabit my area (one in the High Peaks has already figured how to open some "bear proof" models--I believe the twist type).

Nice size for two people, to carry backpack type food, add water. Keeps not only bears out, but insects, rodents, coons, squirrels and the elements away from your food. Do store in shade.

Great for when you use pepper spray in any situation. This product is only for when pepper spray gets on your skin this can't be used if it gets in your eyes.

Haven't needed to use and hope we never have to. The product information is on the canister and all of the directions are in really, really small print. I strongly recommend removing the cansiter from the heavy plastic shipping bag as it could not be removed easily in a hurry AND reading how to use the canister BEFORE needing to actually use it. Apparently not a good choice for hot climates as it says to not leave in a hot vehicle. Kind of leaves out all of the south west for most of the year! Hard to rate this product as we've not physically used it yet and as I said- directions for use are lost among so much other information and in very small print- (I'm sure in order to get all the necessary information on the product label) that orientation to the product is imperative prior to initial use.

It weird that I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on a bear container until I hiked a park that required it. Now that I have one, I'm glad I do, and I use it on every multi-day hike where bears might be in the vicinity.

Small enough for pocket or purse.

Keep one in every coat for those nights walking to the parking lot alone. Have not had the need to use it. Hope it'll do the job when needed.

Hasn't been used yet but purchased for my gf to keep in her purse and be used responsibly. Good to be on the safe side when coming home late after being out in the concrete jungle!
