4.0 out of 5 stars. Great deal! Don't get the spool wet, though...

This indicator tippet is $15 at a fly shop, so to get it with a coupon for under $3 was a steal. I've learned, though, not to get these spools wet. The red dye will bleed over to the neon yellow sections, making them a pale orange, and killing the contrast that makes this tippet useful. I keep a spool at home, dry, and a spool in my fishing vest inside a waterproof bag. (Oddly, getting a single section of the material wet while fishing doesn't seem to have the same bleed-over effect. Or maybe I change tippet often enough to avoid the problem.)

I bought both the 13lb and the 2x version of this tippet. The heavier one seems better for its purpose. It should be more visible since it is thicker. The tippet alternates between a bright neon chartreuse and a deep red. Sections of each are about 18 inches long.

About Umpqua Feather Merchants

Dennis Black, the founder of Umpqua Feather Merchants, realized way back in 1972 that demand for his expertly tied fishing flies would quickly surpass his ability to create them in sufficient supply. After enlisting some of the best fly-tiers in the industry to help set Umpqua flies’ standard of excellence, Black established the first of five separate fly-tying factories with a focus on producing the best flies constructed using top-tier materials. Today, Umpqua now has factories in Sri Lanka and Thailand, both faithfully reproducing time-tested patterns and introducing promising new patterns year after year. When you fish with Umpqua flies, you’re fishing with one of the best names in the industry.
