I have worn these boots twice, once for 3 hours and the second time for 3 and a half hours. There was absolutely no break-in needed and they felt as good when I took them off as they did when I put them on. I ordered up a half size to accommodate heavy socks and it worked out perfectly. Verified Buyer Reviewed by Houston Corgis from Houston, TX on Friday, December 12, 2014I've been wearing Vasque hiking boots since the 1980s; great quality and the boots tend to last. Based on reviews I ordered a 1/2 size larger. Glad I did because they fit perfectly. Very comfortable. Could use a bit more cushioning in the footbed (will replace insole). Looking forward to many long walks in the fields with my dogs while wearing these boots.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Maple Leaf from California on Monday, September 8, 2014I bought these shoes because they are the identical style to some light hikers I own that I love. I bought the same size and they even seemed the same from the outside, but were too tight when I put them on. It must be something about the shoe design. If they had fit like my light hikers, I would have loved them.
Reviewed by Brittainy L from Kentucky on Tuesday, March 11, 2014I purchased these boots on clearance christmas of 2012 and wear them almost every weekend! They are still in great shape, the tread is still like brand new. These boots had no break in time for me, they were instantly comfortable. I did have to order a full size larger than normal, but other than that they are great boots. Very waterproof also!

Reviewed by W TX Nana from TX on Tuesday, October 8, 2013I own & love a pair of Vasque trail shoes in size 9.5 (my normal size). This was my third attempt to order Vasque hiking boots. Unfortunately, these too will be returned. The first pair was a full size too small - I ordered my usual 9.5. Next pair, different style #' I ordered a 10.5 - seemed reasonable since the last pair were so small. These were too large, by at least a 1/2 size and too wide in the toe box. For my third try, this order, the only size close was a 9.5. Thought it was worth a try -- these are at least a full size, maybe 1.5, too small. I'm done ordering Vasque hiking boots. I have never seen such inconsistent sizing within one brand.
Question & Answer
“I am looking for a boot that can used for day hikes, as well as an overnight trip. Is this going to be stiff enough to support weight, or is this more of a light day hike trail type boot? thanks. *i don't hike very often, but will go a few times in the rockies and ozarks”
I would say the boot would give you the support for someone carrying a pack for an overnight hike or weekend trip. However, if I were going on regular long back-country trips with a loaded pack, I would choose a stiffer, sturdier boot. That type of boot will take time to break-in.
“I have the Opportunist trail shoe in a size 8 and would like to order the Opportunist mid hiking boot. Many of the reviews say that the mid hiking runs smaller than normal. Is there enough of a difference in sizes in the two shoes that I should order a 8.5 in the mid hiking? Thanks”
According to our fit models the Mid Hiking Boot runs true to size. I would recommend ordering the size you normally would.
My opinion would be to go with the larger size simply due to the long tongue laces. It is very difficult to get this boot on your foot - but I have no experience with the trail shoes.
