For more than fifty years, Vasque boots have been helping hikers, backpackers, mountaineers and trail runners get off the beaten path and out into the wilderness. When company founder William D. Sweasy traveled to Europe in the 1960s and saw how recreational hiking was sweeping the continent, he knew it wouldn’t be long before the craze reached American soil. In the years since Sweasy created the Vasque footwear company, Vasque hiking boots and mountaineering boots have become synonymous with outdoor exploration. Whether your destination is a ... These are probably best for city/sidewalk or moderate trail use. There is nothing remotely "technical" about them. They are definitely not approach shoes. But the casual subdued styling lets them fit in just about anywhere. They are comfortable enough and fit well, but the toe box is tight. Be sure to order up at least a full size from your street shoe size.

The lacing system is primitive and lacks custom adjustability. The laces cross only three times, vs five on my old Patagonias. On the other hand, they "open wide" and are easy to get on and off.

The Vibram (tm) outsole is rugged looking, and provides good traction, but the heel-strike area is of suspect durability. Instead of a solid plug of rubber, there is a series of ridges instead. I already see significant wear in that area after only a couple of weeks.

    Pros:
    - Nice price
    - Subdued, plain-jane styling
    - Gen-u-wine Vibram outsole
    - Easy on easy off
    - Appear to be well constructed

    Cons:
    - Primitive, non customizable lacing system
    - Potentially poor outsole durability in the heel-strike area.
    - Toebox could be roomier. A lot roomier, actually.

    Three and a half stars.

Great out of box comfort and fit. Very well made, bridegroom in toe box. Wore them on a couple of 10+ mile hikes in rough terrain with no blistering or rubs, handled wet conditions very well. They are a bit too stiff for me because I have a high arch that translates to a rigid foot so I need more flexibility in a boot. They do seem to be getting a bit more flexible, but I would like them to be more so. These are a good back-up boot but Asolo remains my favorite.

Great boots. I replaced a pair of Vasque that were similar. These are breaking in nicely!

Seemed a little larger than expected- but a good pair of socks takes care of that. didn't take long to break in the leather.

I wear a 13 wide in Vasque St Elias GTX and bought the same size with these, but too big. Probably will have to down size if I want to try again. Boots are very comfortable and look great.

Fit is good. Warm waterproof and snowprooof and looks likely to hold up well

These boots for the price were more than I could ever ask for. Warm and comfortable.

My only complaint is that the size may run a little on the larger size. I usually wear size 8 and these have extra room. However, I have already been out snowshoeing for miles and have not had issues with the shoes sliding or rubbing.

I love the extra loop at the bottom of the laces for gaiters!

My second pair of Vasque hiking boots. This pair looks like they will need some breaking in. Just a little stiff, think they just need to be hiked in a bit. The build quality of these boots is awesome. I highly recommend.

Got a chance to put these through the ringer last Sunday on a five mile hike through lots of streams, some snow and very rutty/uneven trails. They were a dream. Fit to form, very comfortable even breaking them in, firm with not very much bend (which I personally like) if you prefer more flexibility in your boots these probably wouldn't be your first choice but only for that reason. It is a preference of mine as I like to hike the distance. Marched through flowing streams dry as a bone, up and down steep rocky hills, sailed over fallen trees and returned home after a moderately difficult hike with no blisters or pain in my feet, which was very impressive for me as usually the breaking in period involves a few battle scars for me.
