As soon as I opened e box, I realized it has no bottle holders, and considered returning it because of this oversight. I decided in the end to keep it and go to a hydration bladder for a few reasons: 1. Expandable side pockets are very large when expanded 2. Lightweight design 3. Excellent ventilation The compass/whistle is gimmicky and was immediately given to a young man that seemed to really like it (8 y.o.). Overall I am very happy with the pack so far.
