Verified Buyer Reviewed by Just another adventurer from Canada on Saturday, February 9, 2013Buying this pack at the start of winter, it has so far only had the chance to experience backcountry skiing, but I believe it would hold up quite well for hiking, overnight trips and climbing as well.
The pack has a fairly narrow profile, which means you aren't bumping your elbows when you bring them back. The hip belt has minimal padding, but will contour nicely to your hips, and provides good support considering. The side zip is excellent for accessing items in the lower part of the bag, especially if you pack a helmet/rope/etc on top. There is also an external side pocket that I didn't notice advertised, which is great for maps, snacks, or anything else small you want to keep handy.
The extendable collar is great for helping to keep out snow, but also lets you throw a ton more into your pack if you're going for a bit longer or need a little bit more gear.
The only negative I could possibly bring to light is that the bottom of the pack is very narrow. My new ultralight "summer" (30F) sleeping bag should fit, but most mid to larger bags would likely require more creative arrangements.
Overall, I have been very happy with my purchase. I wouldn't say it's the perfect pack, but it's done a great job of balancing functional features with a lightweight frame. And Vaude is also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, which monitors fair working conditions around the world (and has other sustainability/social responsibility initiatives). A good company to support!
