My complaints about traditional shoulder packs are that they restrict arm movement, can throw off balance, and because I am tall, packs frequently don't fit well. All of these complaints are answered by the Victorinox Lumbar Pack.

As a docent I need to have field guides with me. This pack can handle the small plastic type well. It can also carry a small snack. I had to add a bottle holder for my water bottle.

I got this as a gift from a coworker, started using it at work on calls. I added an internal divider, zipper pulls, and changed the strap out for a wider one. Currently, it will hold a BP cuff, 500cc saline bag + 2 macrodrip sets and 2 three-way ports, glucometer, several syringes and needles, two adult airways, neb + abulterol & atrovent, pair of gloves, NTG spray, IV dressings, and a couple other odds & ends. The impressive thing? I've hauled it on calls for about three years now, and none of the seems or zippers have blown out. The waterproof coating is holding up well too! The back side is padded, and you can run a belt through it or stash your passport/emergency money there.
The outer compartment zipper is in an odd spot, being right in the middle; long items are awkward to stow. The water bottle pockets are a bit tight. Still, it's quite a decent pack for day hike, holds your basics and then some.
