At 8 lbs, this really is not a backpacking tent but with 45 sq ft of interior space, splitting the tent load amongst 3 people would definitely work. This is not your conventional tent - it is a semi free standing - and if you follow the enclosed instructions and peg it down properly, you've got an extremely stable tent with tons of head room. Very well designed - too bad Wenger is getting out of the tent business - great for us as you can buy these tents for less then half price. Tent quality is awesome - obvious to anyone who's owned a tent or two

This tent was a major disapointment.

This tent is supported by one main diagonal pole and two smaller cross poles. It relies on being staked down securely to stand up. This sounds fine in theory but doesn't work in practice.

I took it on a weekend Cub Scout camping trip with my son and had real problems with the tent colapsing on us. The corrons of the tent have to be pulled tight , then staked. If a stake loosens or pulls up, the tent folds. My son leaned on the tent wall, a stake pulled up, and the tent started to fold. It rained, the ground got soft and muddy, and I had to go out in the rain and re-stake the tent twice.

The zipper on the fly snagged to the point of my having to get my son to go out the other door and help me fix it from outside.

Don't be fooled by the boxy shape of this tent. The sides opposite the pole slope inward leaving the tent with very little useable space.

I bought this to replace my old inexpensive department store tent and found myself wishing that I had not done it.
    • Cons: Not free standing, Too Small / Tight, Zipper Snags Easily
    • Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational
    • Pros: Easy to set up, Packs Small, Quality Materials

As others have said, this tent is oddly designed with only one support pole (and two small ones for the fly). When staked down it seems sturdy, roomy, well ventilated with good vestibule space. Overall, I like it.
    • Best Uses: 3 Season Camping, Car Camping
    • Cons: Not stand alone
    • Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational
    • Pros: Comfortable, Convenient carrying case, Great aluminum poles, Roomy, Tough floor material, Well Made

I stake my tents, but there are times that you can't.This tent does not stand on it's own. It is also a strange shape. I sent it back, and exchanged for a much better option.
    • Cons: Has to be staked, Packs Too Large
    • Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational

This is an excellent tent. It set up easily and quickly and the rain fly was very generous, completely covering the entire tent. There is extensive open areas, so if you are camping in a warm climate you could easily leave the fly off. The number of poles for the tent was minimal, only one, which made set up very easy. Also, plastic hooks were used to secure the tent to the pole so that you did not have to thread the pole through a long sleeve.

However, to fully utilize the features of the tent you need to secure the ground stakes. If you are camping at a site with minimal topsoil, you need to find heavy rocks to hold the stakes in place.
    • Best Uses: 3 Season Camping
    • Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational
    • Pros: Comfortable, Packs Small
    • What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist
