I bought this tent to use along the Wa. state coast in April. We had wind gusts up to 30 mph and 6"+ of rain in a few hours. The Rothom 3 held up very well. No leaks or bent polls. I really like the gear pockets along the inside walls. The reflective guy-out loops were useful as well. We used all of them. The only downfalls to an otherwise excellent tent system is the lack of detailed instructions (I'm a tent newbie) and good quality stakes. You will need to practice setting up this tent to get the rainfly on straight, connecting all the clips. The tent is designed with very tight tolerances. It is a 2-person tent with room for gear. Plenty of room for your boots to stay dry under the vestibule. No condensation issues, even with 3 people in the tent. Overall, a good buy.

This is my third, 4-season tent. Nothing much could top this for a double entry (front and back door)which allows it to work in the summer, too.

Looked forward to tent's arrival, but set up was more difficult than expected. Tent is designed for four season use and would be great once in place. My set up was on a good fall day in the backyard. Other more experienced campers may have better luck. Sierra Trading Post's easy return policy is appreciated.

  • Question “I don't see any roof vents on neither the 2 or 3 person versions of the Rothorn. Yet the 2012 Backpacker Gear Guide says the 2 person version has "near perfect" ventilation. I don't see how that's possible without roof vents? How are the 2 and 3 person Rothorn's vented to minimize interior cold-weather condensation? ”
Asked on 3/18/2013 1:59:30 PM by JC from Chicago
    • Answer The tent has no roof vents, The doors have two flaps one mesh and one solid fabric. You could zip the fabric flap down at the top leaving the mesh zipped for ventilation.
