About Wetfly Rubber Net with Wooden Handle - Large

Closeouts. Wetfly's rubber net with wooden handle is perfect for catch-and-release fishing thanks to the fish-friendly rubber net that is less likely to tangle and removes less of the fish's slime coating than a fabric net does, leaving it healthy upon release.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great net, great price

I just received this net and am very pleased. I wanted a boat net and this fits the bill. It's very long and is made of a beautiful wood. The net is rubber so it won't hurt the fish (as much). Other reviews have indicated that the net is shallow and that is accurate, but it will be plenty deep for Rocky Mountain trout.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great net

This net is great for use in a boat or drift boat. The long handle allows you to stand comfortably and scoop fish rather than lean over the side and reach with a normal net.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Barely worth the discount price

Net arrived well packaged and fast as all products from STP do. That's where the good stuff about this purchase ends.

The first thing I saw when examining the net was that the end of the handle was cracked, the finish damaged and the screw for the lanyard was stripped out. The second discovery was that the cording used to attach the netting to the handle is flimsy uncoated STRING.

I paid so little for the net it is not worth the hassle of returning it. I will cut down the handle, sand and refinish it and re-attach the lanyard. After the shad run in May I will re-cord the net basket with proper cording.

If you don't want to or cannot do these things yourself stay away from this net.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. adequate net

I have not used it yet, but I do have some concerns. the basket seems a little shallow and may be too small for big fish (which is why we all carry nets in the first place). I primarily fish eastern Washington streams with large trout. I don't know whether it will be big enough to land a 25+ inch fish, when I am lucky enough to hook one.

its a little heavier than some wood-handled nets I have had in the past. I saw a prior review about the strap breaking and I can see that may be a problem. however, most nets I have had in the past have similar problems.

I have some concern about the durability of the wood, but cannot say whether it will suffice without trying it first.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. She's cute, but shallow.

This net seems to be of good quality, but don't be fooled by the size. I gave it three stars because it seemed to be of good construction and quality, but lacked in size. I was expecting the larger hoop to have a respectively larger (i.e. deeper) net. Not so. The net would be fine for boating medium size trout, but is definitely too small (shallow) for Great Lakes region smallmouth bass. I returned it.
