Reviewed by ValueSeeker from Bainbridge Island on Saturday, March 30, 2013To update my previous review: WMF is sending me replacements for the 3 forks in one set that were lighter gauge (37 instead of 53 grams). I actually ordered another set because I fear this pattern may be discontinued (WMF is closing them out). Only 1 of the 3 sets I ordered had any issues. FYI, WMF makes a Manaos II, which I think is their lighter-gauge version. These are a very pleasing weight, simple, solid, with a bit of elegant flair. I like that all pieces are solid, including the knife. Overall, I am reassured that both WMF and STP will stand behind the product.

It turns out that 16 grams is the difference between a feeling of lasting, timeless quality and a feeling that whether the dinner fork will bend is a question of when not if. I opened the first set and was disappointed by the feel, weight, and appearance of the dinner fork. Then I notieced that one was different. Noticably thicker, heavier, more substantial. I opened the second set to find all of the dinner forks matching this heavy one. I weighed the different forks, with one coming in at 37 grams and the second at 53. That means the heavier fork is almost 50% beefier than the lighter gauge. The heavy ones match the rest of the set, the lighter, not so much. I am waiting to see if WMF will send me replacements before returning the first set... Oh, other than this issue, the flatware is beautiful, just what I had hoped for as a birthday gift for my wife... If you, like me, were wondering at the difference in opinions on this flatware, I believe these missing 16 grams are the cause. That sound you just heard was 150 years of brand building and integrity flushed away along with those 16 grams.
