Swing the hanging oak leaf handle and a perfectly positioned cast hammer strikes the edge of the bell producing a beautifully clear old-fashioned ring-tone to announce your guests.

    No, I would not recommend this to a friend
    I've heard Woodstock wind chimes and liked them so I had hopes for this doorbell. However, it didn't make enough sound to be heard when the front door was closed, so it was useless for us. Maybe as a warning before entering an office or other indoor room it might be useful. It wasn't worth sending it back so I'll give it to someone who might use it indoors.

    This is a hand bell, as much as a chime. It looks great indoor or out, as it is not loud, and the wind seldom blows hard enough for independent contact. There is no ball inside, the beautiful sound comes from the casting being hit by the branch "hammer", which hangs from the main structure. We use it as a door bell, for those who wish to enter, they just pull the branch for a lovely chime.

    We're using it as a bell to call them in for dinner. The sound is reaching across the garden and a good ways from the house. Very nice. It is a little hard to get it to swing from the end piece up to the bell...but worth it. Only need to get it to ding once and the sound carries.
