No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Although the all-cotton waffle weave led me to believe they would be absorbent, they aren't, even after washing. I would wipe a counter and it would remain wet, then I would try to dry it with the matching towel, and the counter would still be wet, which, of course, is unsanitary.
