Yaktrax Winter Traverse Traction Pull-Ons (For Men and Women)

These are the best ice grippers I have found, and I have had a few living in New England. Very easy to put on and THEY STAY PUT. Fit is good, sole is well covered and unlike the spiked pair I had last I dont feel the traction apparatus through my shoe/sneaker. Bought some for my spouse to run in and they work well. Even got a pair for my mother-in-law who likes them...now thats saying something.

I was famililar with this product because a friend loaned some to me and my wife about a year ago. It was very important for my wife because she already had a broken leg from slipping on ice. There was wet sleety ice when we arrived for a visit, and the product was invaluable. When I spotted them in the catalog, I bought a pair for every member of my family. I'm glad that I paid attention to sizing because putting on a too small pair would probably be difficult. When they arrived, they are neatly folded, one inside the other. I've got pretty strong hands, but I found undoing this to be a challenge. Fortunately one only has to do this once. I also found that it was not easy to figure out which part goes in the front. Note: the rectangular tab goes by the heel. A little line drawing would have been nice. By coincidence, I got to test mine the day after they arrived. Once I figured out the problems I mentioned, I went out into the ice storm with confidence. They worked great. I wish my wife would have had some before she broke her leg. She felt secure with the loaners even while she was recouperating. That sold me.

Yaktrax are a basic must around town for that southern ice storm, but are also good in the northern mountains for a quick light trip where you don't want to carry all that technical gear, but have a little bit of compact snow or ice you need to cross / ascend. Don't get caught on the ice without one.
