Most Helpful 5-Star Review

A bit underwhelmed when I first took them out of the box but now that I've hiked in them a couple of times I give them 5 stars. They are super lightweight and fit my slightly wide foot comfortably. The treads are trustworthy on wet rocks. Although I usually feel the need to replace flimsy innersoles... Read More

  • “Would these be recommended for hiking in Alaska in September? First time hiking, especially in Alaska, will most likely be used for light sightseeing/hiking. ”
Asked by Lori from Texas on 8/7/2017 10:05:50 PM
    • I'm not sure what the temperature will be, but these boots have no warmth to them at all. They are very light and airy. They are waterproof though. Haven't used them for very wet weather but have walked in wet grass and small puddles and they stay dry. I only use these for dog walks and casual wear. Too light weight for me to use them for hiking at all.

    • I've never been to Alaska, so I don't think I can adequately answer your question. They are great boots for dry land hiking, but not for wet conditions?. From what I've been told about Alaska, it's pretty wet, so I would think not. You may want to check the weather for the time you'll be there to determine the trail conditions?.

    • I wear these hiking all the time. They are very lightweight and comfortable.

    • These are good for lightweight hiking, and are waterproof, but they do not have any insulation.

    • Hi Lori from Texas,
The boots are super comfortable but definitely not waterproof. I wore them in Yellowstone for a camping trip and the rain/grass moisture went right through them. They dry quickly and I was sorry I had not packed wool socks because that would have made a big difference. Maybe they could be sprayed with waterproofing but right out of the box they are not the least bit water resistant.

    • Yes, I would use them in Sept., but not if I were going there in the winter. I have traveled to Alaska in Sept. & that year, there was some pretty chilly & rainy weather. The boots would have been fine, but they are partly mesh fabric, so not completely waterproof if you get caught in heavy rain. They sure are comfy. Order 1/2 size up if you plan to wear heavy socks.

    • I've not been to Alaska (yet). But I live in Montana and my guess is they will do great. Get a good pair of wool socks and I think you will love them.

    • I would call these light weight comfortable hiking shoes but should be fine for sight seeing - it is all about how well they fit your feet. These have a nicer lacing system than my previous Ahnus so you can be more precise in snugging the foot without the tightness moving up to the ankle. Also the waterproofness is a must, just remember the waterproof booties won't take you through deep puddles. Nice grippy soles.

  • “is it a stiff or flexible toe sole, please?”
Asked by valerie from charlottesvilles on 7/4/2017 10:25:17 AM
    • It's flexible, comfortable, good for moderate hiking. A person might want more stiffness if scaling really rugged terrain.
Answered on 7/4/2017 2:08:04 PM by Nan from New Mexico
    • This is a light weight hiker, and the sole is flexible, but I can say that the toe is flexible. It is flexible at the ball of the foot. From the picture the shoe looks like a firm hiker but it is not. I use them more for a comfortable walking shoe.
Answered on 7/4/2017 9:42:44 PM by Ruth from NEPA
    • I would say a flexible toe. It's not totally flexible but not as stiff as a traditional hiking boot. Hope this helps!

    • I would say it is fairly stiff which is what I like for hiking in rough terrain. However it is not so stiff that I did get a crease in the toe box area which is less than ideal (I am a 10.5 women's size) but have always worn an 11 in Ahnu (this is my 4th pair) but am guess that this one is maybe a bit longer than previous pairs??

  • “Does this boot run true to size?”
Asked by Jeana from Northern California on 4/30/2017 6:53:21 PM
    • According to our fit team this item is running true to size.
Answered on 5/5/2017 5:44:16 PM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • I consider myself an 8.5 but sometimes in hiking footwear I order a 9 just to be sure I can wear them with heavy socks. I ordered these in 8.5 and they fit perfectly. They are a lightweight hiking boot so I wouldn't be wearing them in cold weather with heavy socks anyway. So my advise is if you are going to wear light/medium socks then go with your true size. Hope this helps.
