It is the stitching on the top part of boot towards the toe. The tread is still very good. Have another pair of this brand and they have done really well.

Almost perfect winter bootsReviewed by Anonymous from Vermont on Friday, December 22, 2017I've been wearing a pair of the (non-insulated) Ahnu Coburn boots for a couple of years and I LOVE them. It's absolutely crazy that Ahnu has decided to stop making men's boots and only make boots for women. But I digress...onto these Orion boots.
I've been wearing them now for three days. The fit is great overall; really good support for such a lightweight boot. I like Ahnu's design approach by keeping the crazy swoops and curvey-curves to a minimum. They look great. My only gripe is that the top two sets of lace eyelets are really close together so you have to pay attention when lacing in order to get the lace in the right eyelets. Not a big deal but odd when you look at it. Concurrent with this glitch, the tounge at the top feels tight...like it puts a bit of excessive pressure on the front of my shin. Not super uncomfortable but just noticeable enough to be a bit annoying. The back, at the top cuff level, almost feels like it could have had some of the excess support they gave the front.
But those are pretty minor points. Ahnu is one of the few manufacturers putting all metal lace eyelets on their boots. Others use at least some fabric-webbing loops, which I do not trust over the long haul. At the $100 price, these are a fantastic bargain. Get a pair now; you will not be able to purchase them anymore after this. -
