Toughest and most comfortable boots I've owned in 35 years of heavy duty boot abuse. Bought a pair nearly 9 years ago and they are still going strong. Unfortunately I did not look after them as well they looked after me, and allowed the lining leather to dry out and crack- my fault. Beyond that, not... Read More

Very good boot, it’s going to take some time to break them in, finally a well made boot that will last more than a few seasons! hiking in them will tell all.

I’ve had these for a couple of months. I’ve been breaking them in slowly. Even though it’s like strapping two 400 year old wooden ships to your feet I couldn’t be more happy with them. This is exactly how a hiking boot is supposed to be made. Don not fall for the make pretend glued up nylon “boots”. These are REAL. The only other choice for a grown man would be Peter Limmers boots and at five times the cost and a two year wait it kind of makes these the only choice. I’ll be buried in these boots(in a mud slide I hope.

These are, in my opinion, the best old style hiking boots on the market for the money. To get something comparable you would have to spend around $400, which is what these are normally priced at, according to STP. Some reviewers have said that this is too much boot for daily use; I disagree. I'm 6' and 195 lbs and this is a perfect boot for me. They are heavy for sure, but this is what I was looking for. It's true that it takes a couple of months to break these in (and this can be a bit painful), but once you do then I've found that they are a good and very versatile boot. If you need a solid, heavy duty boot that offers lots of support then you can't go wrong here.

I've only had them for a week so not much to report. They appear to be well built. Break-in period is going to be slow. I'll report back once they're in full use. It would have been nice to get better care instructions for the specialty leather.

  • “Do these boots take crampons well?”
Asked by awlareau from Colorado on 2/11/2018 8:18:45 PM
    • I don't know what kind of crampons you use, I think it's for the general public not for professional ice/snow mountain climber.
Answered on 2/11/2018 11:16:47 PM by Mel from NY
    • Have not used crampons yet. They seem stiff enough to accommodate them

  • “My boots arrived with an advisory tag indicating that no oil or wax-based products should be used on them. I have read various opinions and recommendations that contradict the manufacturer. The leather in the New Guides is apparently silicon-infused for waterproofing. Is a silicon spray advised? Does Alico recommend any product for maintaining the boot? Thank you.”
Asked by Strider from Virginia on 12/28/2017 11:23:58 AM
    • Yes, use a silicon based water proofer. Also use a silicon welt seal on the stiching as water will work its way through the threads into the boot.
