Solid boot

Alright, I've had these boots for about a year now, and I feel that I can accurately comment on their performance. I have a light hiking boot set, and wanted something heavy with a good sized shank in it, and I love the norwegian welted look, and this is the epitome of that. Right out of the box, they were comfy, but became a bit hellish during the break in. Right from the get-go, I took other people's advice and put in some Sole EV high volume insoles, and in retrospect, that was probably not a good idea. The stock insoles seem to be flimsy and crummy, but high volume soles lift the back of your foot and (at least for my feet) created a major pressure point right where the heel bone meets the achilles tendon. Upon removing them, the boots fit significantly better....they even seem wider now for some reason.

Alright, so after more than 100 miles on bad insoles, I still say these boots kick butt. I never go without two pairs of socks though, the heel still chafes every so often, but that is alleviated by two pairs of socks. I've done high alpine hikes with these (not mountaineering, but hiking up to glaciers, etc.). The boots are not by any means waterproof, I believe that you have to take that upon yourself to go at the seams, but I really enjoy the 100% leather inside and out. By the end of a good hike, your foot isnt sloshing in sweat created by a gore-tex liner.

these boots are still growing on me, and are alright to wear around all day even if youre not hiking. when you go hiking hiking boots ive ever had. order .5-1 size bigger than what you normally get, MAKE SURE TO BREAK THEM IN, take care of them (maybe with some Limmer Boot Grease), and have fun!
